How to Get Healthier Looking Hair

To be honest, I’ve always been more concerned with my hair rather than my skin. Whatever the symptoms, skin can always be covered with a good foundation in most cases. As for hair, once it tastes humidity, there’s no way to tame it.

We all have tried various products and hair treatments to get our dream hair, but 90% of our efforts (if not more) were failures. I don’t know about you, but I always couldn’t understand why the tricks that other people use don’t work with me. Either tips on the internet, grandmother’ remedies or friends’ recommendations. Nothing worked.

Now, after too many failures and experiments, I finally got to the "awaited" results. And I decided to share with you my own tips and the products that I have used to have this shiny silky hair I’ve always wanted.

Trim your hair

The importance of trimming hair is something everybody knows but doesn't want to accept because there is nothing more mortifying than cutting your hair when you’re desperately trying to make it grow longer, right? Yet I’m sure that your hair stops growing at a certain length, and that is because of those annoying split-ends. It is crucial to cut the damaged part of your hair or the damage will escalate to your roots (you don't want that). So yes, you must cut your hair because there are NO cures for split-ends, and start considering scissors as a friend.

Finding a good hairdresser is very important. We have all suffered from those hairdressers that cut more than they're asked to or literally burn your scalp. Make some research and ask your surroundings for good hairdressers who can actually save your hair.

You can skip the hairdresser and trim your hair on your own if it isn't too damaged, and you aren't planning to cut it too short. But even if you're on a budget, sacrificing a little of it won't hurt. Besides, you will get much better results than when doing it at home.

If your hair is too prone to damage or if you use heat a lot, skip haircuts with a lot of layers. Limit your split-ends to only the very bottom of your hair so that it would be easier for you to trim it at least once a month at home.

Nutrition

Nutrition is key to healthy hair. Make sure that you eat healthy food to nourish your hair from the inside and apply oils to it to nourish it from the outside. Olive and coconut oil are two of the mostly recommended and widely used oils. You can alternate their use, use olive oil on the ends and coconut oil on the roots or just mix them together. Apply them before washing your hair or as a finishing touch. Don't exaggerate their use though, because if your hair is too oily, it'll start falling.

Shampoo

Some of us think that shampoo is key to good and healthy hair. And some think that it’s just used for cleaning the scalp and roots. Truth be told, both are correct. The choice of shampoo must be “accurate” if I may say. It does clean your scalp as it can help with entangling your hair and prevent it from feeling dry. If the shampoo is not for your hair type you might end with coarse, falling or oily hair within a day.

Look at your roots and see what your natural hair is really like. Don’t judge your hair type depending on its length. Sometimes we think that we have coarse hair and invest in products for coarse and dry hair while it is actually normal. I was too keen on having my old undamaged hair back that I made this mistake. Even though my hair was of normal type; I thought it was coarse while it was just too damaged because of overly using blow-driers and straightening irons, twice a day, daily. (It was like taking medicine). However, the result was not the dreamy hair I was aiming for, but greasy yet coarse, puffy untamed hair.

I personally kept alternating between shampoos, and I really don't know how many brands I've tried. Of course, none of them really worked as I was expecting until I bought Garnier, Ultra Doux Olive MythiqueThis shampoo was perfect for my extremely dry, damaged, split-ends infected hair. For optimal results I also used the deep conditioner that comes with it. I wasn't that fan of putting olive oil in my hair because I was told it makes it darker, and because I didn't really like how it felt (I didn't know how to properly apply it then). So I was directly compelled by having a shampoo with olive oil which has many benefits.

The shampoo I’m currently using is Pantene Smooth & Sleek. The reason I shifted to Pantene is because my hair’s “statues” changed from dry and damaged to mildly oily because of stress related health problems. Along this shampoo I apply L'oreal, Elseve Liss-Intense, soin creme lissant sans rincage while still damp before blow drying it.
One night of sleep, and my hair is ready for the week.

If your hair is not thick or coarse, do not apply too much products in the roots, it's just going to make your hair feel oily. Plus, don't let your hair get too greasy (even if it looks on point sometimes) and don't wash it too frequently. You want to preserve your natural hair's oils; not dry them out.
As for the conditioner and deep conditioner, it's preferable to only use them on your hair's length avoiding the roots whatever your hair type is.

P.S. These products worked for me, but they might not work with you. So you have to keep on looking for the products that suits your hair type best and fulfils your majesty's demands.

Limit Heat

Limiting heat usage is very important. One thing I need to stress is that you should not force your hair to curl or to become straight if it doesn’t want to. This will only damage it even more. Trust me who was a brute to my hair.

If it doesn’t want to curl, just add some volume. Opt for a simple hairstyle and your ready. And if it doesn’t want to become straight, learn the art of perfecting your natural curls or waves.
There are generally two periods when your hair won’t accept irons, when it’s newly washed and when it’s greasy.

Blow dry your hair only once after washing it. And use irons only when you really need them. Generally, we all look for textured hair, so in the morning just fix your locks or strands with your fingers, and you can rock a natural look.
